Our challenge was to join two dissimilar post-war apartments into a unified five bedroom family home. Asked to create a flexible plan that could expand and contract over time, we opened and re-proportioned public living spaces to 72nd street off of Madison Ave to take advantage of Southern light and city views. We then created a private family suite “retreat” to the rear with quiet picturesque courtyard North & Western views. We created flexible guest spaces to allow for extended family visits and future family growth. Our clients requested a calm, restrained, consistent modern envelope to serve as a backdrop to their collection of modern furniture and art.
